Today was the best day of the trip so far. After a short walk on connecting backroads, I entered the Cross Island Trail that took me over the Chesapeake Narrows to Kent Island.
The Cross Island Trail is a model recreation trail that winds through beautiful back woods and marshes, past a sparkling new park complex, and through the impressive modern Kent Island High School campus.
Want to build a cool trail? You would be smart to check this one out.
At the end of the trail, Peter Schoettle, the Maryland ADT coordinator and congressional liason, picked me up and shuttled me over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Pedestrians and cyclists are not allowed on the bridge, so this solved my potential major dilemma of finding a way across. Can’t thank Peter enough!
On top of that favor, Peter and Marilyn hosted me for yet another night and Peter gave me a car tour of the town of Annapolis. Lots of cool history and a close view of the state house.
By the end of the week I will be in Georgetown (yes, THAT George) and ready to tackle the 168 mile C&O Canal Towpath. It gets awesomer and awesomer.
Peace, Love, and Go Navy,
