Freezin’ Athens

Waning Crescent Moon

Athens OH is a really nice college town, home of the Ohio University Bobcats. I only wish I could have visited when it was warmer. This morning the wind chill was a nippy 15°F. Too cold for me even with all my clothes on.

Athens has a beautiful paved rail trail, too, that extends past the University almost 20 miles to Nelsonville OH, which is way out of the way, unfortunately, for a coast to coast touring strollerist.

There is an historic Bed and Breakfast in Nelsonville. An overnight bike ride on the trail with a stay at the B&B would be a nice, sane way to get a little exercise and see the local forested scenery. You don’t HAVE to walk to Athens from Delaware, you know. You can drive there from just about anywhere.

I find myself in an unexpected pickle, my friends. The weather is only going to get worse, with snow predicted on Friday and services few and far between on the way to Cincinnati.

Pardon me, but my reaction to this news is: “Sheeeee-it.”

Necessity may give birth to ugly inventions this week. If you see my mugshot on the evening news, it will probably mean I panicked and commandeered a vehicle or two. In the interest of warmth and safety, even a mild-mannered California retiree can turn into a street thug 😉

So if you don’t hear from me in a while, I may be spending time in a Chillicothe jail for grand theft auto. Three squares and a cot, yo.

Peace, Love, and Bail,
Palomino

  1. Hola,

So I’ve been to Athens OH in conjunction with doing work at the General Mills, Wellston OH plant where Totinos Pizzas and Pizza Rolls are made. 🙂 Unfortunately I don’t think they’ll let you stop in for a casual tour…
    Be safe!
