Waning Gibbous Moon
Whenever it rained when I was a kid my Dad would sing “Pennies from Heaven.” It was a hit song in 1936, when Dad was a freshman at Creighton University in Omaha. I think he liked the Bing Crosby version from the movie of the same name. I prefer Billie Holiday’s recording with Bennie Goodman et al.
Today pennies dropped on my head for four dadgum hours. I passed the time walking (of course) and thinking about Dad and how happy he seemed when he sang that song. Doing that cheered me right up, just like he always did. The times I spent with my Dad were unequivocally the happiest times of my life.
Most of the day I was on or near US Hwy 6 but there were also some bike paths to cruise on in the vicinity of the Des Moines River.
The Inter Urban Trail was short but it kept me away from traffic for a while. Plus it was all greened up and healthy looking.
There were a few nice parks on the way from Des Moines to Urbandale and a tiny Community Garden, too. (Shout out to Robin in Hollister!)
I told this bicyclist I was going to make him famous on the internet. He was visibly excited at the prospect 😉 If you see him some day, please pretend that he is famous.
The day ended with random horse stuff.
I have had enough rain for a while so I’m going to rest tomorrow. Somebody else will have to walk along the highway on Saturday and get sprayed by cell phone-talking bimbos in SUVs and obese teen linemen in pickups. Tire spray drops are pennies from the other place.
Peace, Love, and Laundry,
